10MM Carry Loads
10mm Carry Loads
Many Glocksters own a 10mm Glock pistol or have recently purchased a Glock 29
compact 10 mm and asked for recommendations for affordable, factory ammo to use
on the range.
Well, affordable, factory ammo for the 10mm is pretty slim pickings compared
to other calibers. Low power, unavailability and high prices drive many 10mm
aficionados to reloading.
The early Norma 170 gr. load (1358 fps; 696fp) was what 10mm factory ammo
should be, before the FBI made the 10mm into a "Lite" weight. Norma doesn't list
any 10mm factory loads now.
The Hornady 200 grain FMJ flat points work well. These chronograph at 1073
fps. (http://hornady.com/)

Also, the Cor Bon 180 gr. JSP is a good hunting load. However, some folks
stay away from Cor Bon because of hype and previous quality inconsistencies. (http://www.corbon.com/)
For personal protection, my current favorite is the Winchester 175 gr.
Silvertip HPs at 1290 fps. Closest thing to the old hot Norma loads. (http://www.winchester.com/)
Federal is well know in LE circles with the Hydra Shok being the FBI load. (http://www.federalcartridge.com/)

If you don't reload, you'll have to scrounge to fine *affordable* practice
ammo. If you stay in the 10mm camp, you'll wanna buy a Dillion at some point.
