I think your doing a great service to the students and I support your efforts 110%. Good people need the tools to protect themselves in the time of need.
We are not all sheepeople just waiting to be protected and then finding out sadly no protection will coming.

I'm a student at Saint Louis University. As you might know, St. Louis typically runs 1st or 2nd in the nation for highest crime rate. SLU's campus is right in the heart of the high crime area. The campus features the 3rd largest police force in the state of Missouri (behind St. Louis and Kansas City), but it's just not enough. This past year, a girl was raped on the edge of campus, numerous students have been mugged on campus, one student was held at gun point and had his wallet, phone, and car stolen from him at the gas station at the corner of campus, our bank on campus was robbed, and many students have been physically beaten just off campus. I'm scared to death of having my girl friend cross campus alone. This isn't high school where we get to go home at the end of the day; we LIVE here. Students are sitting ducks and it's time to fix that.

To those who believe that everyone can be saved in a shooting situation by campus police, (who are usually rejects from area LE agencies), think again. To the rich brats at high end schools, think again. I was a student
at Winston-Salem State University, in NC; 50 feet off campus in any direction is dangerous neighborhood, I saw
a car get shot up in front of my dorm. That area is rough enough to need body armor for a trip to the store after dark. So being an ADULT student and being REALISTIC, concealed carry on campus should be allowed....I can't trust my life to a reject cop who can't run 20 feet to the doughnut counter

God,Guns and Guts are what made America free. The Left Wingers want to disarm us so we will all be safer, I wonder how many of them would still think this if they had to sit and witness the rape or murder of a loved one while being completely defenseless. The greatest deterrent to a criminal is knowing that their intended victims are armed! They take our freedom of religion out of our schools and public places also. The British called the first defenders of our nation the black brigade because many of them were preachers with thier black clergymen clothes under their coats. Where would we be without them?!.

Dear Mr notaredneck: I am a retired peaceofficer and am now and have been a Judge for 12 years. I am amazed and astounded and fail to comprehend why a person that has travelled in the educational vien such as you could make such stupid remarks you have in this publication. Evidentually you cannot nor understand pure facts that has been published concerning the the positive about people arming themselves for their and their friends protection. Having said that, I refuse to enter into an intelligent debate with an unarmed person. The Judge

What gets me is when they advertise "gun free zones" as if that's helpful.Instead it is a calling card for those illegally armed to perpetrate violence until law enforcement shows up to identify the bodies. Let's at least leave the bad guy wondering if someone might be armed by allowing nationwide concealed carry.

As a Campus Security Officer (unarmed) , I would rather not see any weapons on any campus. But as seeing that most college campus locations are open enviroments and there is no way that the administration can keep weapons (of any type) out of the campus, then by all means let them that pass the bacground check, take the training, demonstrate proficency Carry!. Since the administration and lawmakers decided that they best know how to protect my life then they need to accept full responsibility if in the event that some lunatic decides to pull a VT type murder. I would much rather trust my life to a person with concealed carry(myself included) than I would to the police that arrive 6 minutes after the shooting stops.

It's so funny how some people automatically assume that someone who owns a gun can instantly turn into a homicidal maniac just because of an argument, or a basketball game. Having a gun on you for self defense doesn't mean that the first one to cut in front of you in the lunch line is going to get shot. Oh My god! don't give them guns! think of the children!! they will kill each other for chocolate milk!!! libtards.

Having experienced a real-life incident, where having a gun actually saved my life - I support concelaed carry by trained, responsible individuals on campus. I carry whenever legally possible. I've rounded up all my spare holsters, along with those of my friends - and they are on the way. Good luck to the few and the just. Nevermind the nay-sayers, as they have never been in a life or death situation. Lets all push for a nationwide concealed carry permit.

I am more in favor of professors, security guards and administration carrying than students. Students 21 and over should be allowed to carry if they've taken a gun safety course and gotten their CC license. But, students should remember that it's against the law to mix guns with alchohol. Does the partying crowd at college have the maturity to not carry when partying? Guns in classromms okay, guns at parties - beware of the responsibility!

I go to college in Mass, it won't happen here. My naive peers had an anti-gun protest when they armed the campus police after the VTech shootings...To those who worry about immature individuals w/ a handgun on campus. I agree with you. Most of these knuckleheads have no business w/ one. However, in Mass we have to pay to take a concealed carry course, all sorts of background checks, and pay at least $100 to apply for the permit itself. It's a hassle + it's mostly only serious individuals that will go through the process. I strongly believe that if your state has similar gun control laws, it is responsible to allow concealed carry on campus. It is not a controlled environment and anyone could walk on campus with a full size rifle and play rambo. It's not a court house where you have to pass through a metal detector with armed guards in order to gain entry. School shootings are quite rare and we are statistically safe, but it is not a secure environment if one wishes to do harm.

Maybe Notaredneck hasn't heard of all the shootings. But the mentally unstable don't just pick one college to go to. For those interested, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_school_related_attacks
Copy and paste if you will. Tell all these people that schools are for learning.

I think it will be a huge hurdle to get something like this passed!
I know very few people who wouldn't say LET THEM WHAT?!?! when asked if students should carry. actually, i can say pretty near zero.
I don't think that something as simple as a safety course would solve that problem. and if random drug tests came up, I personally feel that is a bit invasive(although most already take them for athletics), and that would still not prevent the more common drinking issue.
I'd say about 90% of my coworkers in the 17-23 year old range drink to get drunk, most of the time they drink.

I have one concern,
while i'm all for students carrying in class,
I worry about how immature the majority of college students are. With the amount of bums, spending 25 grand year(of mom and dad's money), just to party away with drugs, drinking.
its a shame the irresponsible kids ruin the reputation of the mature students. who, want to take some responsibility into their own hands, and volunteer to help protect their class mates as well, as well as their selves.
A lot of adults are very disrespectful, and un-trusting of kids(while im sure a lot of them have earned the reputation)

I believe that this motion is a good idea. People say that they don't want people with guns at school... but the reality is that the shooters don't care what people want or believe. Having trained personal with concealed guns could help in limiting shootings at schools.

I will be taking part in this program. I am 31yo and hold a valid CHL. Private protection should not end at the classroom door. Our schools and college campuses are turning into ghettos. The ever increasing stress brought on by today's ratrace are driving more and more students to the edge. Like the saying goes, "don't bring a knife to a gunfight." People have been lulled into a feeling of false security by politics and they think passing new gun laws will help protect us. The fact is that laws never give rights, they take them away. Criminals don't care about the law anyway or you wouldn't call them a criminal. Headline reads, "School gunman shot and killed while attempting to slaughter his entire class." "CHL holder to be charged with carrying a gun while on school property." This is what you will see if some lunatic trys to carry out his agression while I am in class.

I am a private school teacher in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and have a concealed permit issued by the state. I think that firearms should be carried by a select few teacher in this country. I carry a firearm to almost every thing that I do. Schools should be no exception.

This is ridiculous. I believe in owning guns as a right but get real! I go to Penn State and allowing people to carry guns on campus property is just absurd. The year is not 1791, and times have changed since the Bill of Rights. I go to school to learn and don't want to worry about saying the wrong thing to someone and have them shoot me; Just as an example. Just because someone completes a safety course or has completed a background check don't be so naive and assume that they will use that gun only in "appropriate" or "acceptable" situations. Since when has college become so dangerous that we need to carry a gun to protect our lives?!?! Perhaps those who feel the opposite should just consider a different alma mater. Put down your egos and use your brains. School is for learning, NOT FOR GUNS!!

I understand the concern with this issue. I feel that college students should be allowed to carry concealed weapons on campus, if, and only if, thay have been through a good gun safety program. Another good idea would be to require them to take a course on the consequences of using a weapon in the commission of a felony, i.e, the rioting after a sporting event. After all, if they are 18, we allow them to go to war and expect them to behave properly. Shouldn't we expect at least as much sense from those attending college. If not, let's just draft them all for service in the military for a couple of years till they grow up. rhino

I believe in the 2nd Amendment. However, having lived in a college town (college park, Md.) and having witnesed the violence that the students carried out on this town following the Universitys basketball team winning the national championship a few years ago, I wonder if allowing concealed carry on campus is all that wonderful an idea. Buildings were burned , cars were trashed, and innocent people and police were assaulted. And if you think that this was an isolated incident look at what has happened on other campuses after similar events. Watch and see what happens in a few weeks when the basketball championship is decided. i bet there will be riots and violence on that college's campus. Sometimes I believe we are our own worst enemy.

I'm all about this motion. I would love to be able to carry my concealed weapon on campus at my college, just in case some knuckleheads decide to get crazy and pull a Columbnine in my town. Not to say that I have an itchy trigger finger, but I also have a family that I love and don't won't anyone taking that away from me anytime soon.
