The Heritage Arms produced Heritage revolvers are some of the most affordable
cowboy style revolvers; they are modeled off the Colt SAA design, which has
proven effective over the past century. Heritage handguns take the classic
design, scaling it down for the 22 caliber models. These firearms come in a few
types of configurations, such as the Heritage Rough Riders small and large bore
revolvers, which make these firearms ideal for first time shooters and firearms
enthusiasts alike.
One of the key selling points for the Heritage Rough Rider revolvers is the
nominal price tag, which is generally around two hundred dollars, making them
some of the cheapest revolvers made in America, but not so with their quality.
Another selling point is the popularity of cowboy action shooting sports, which
are considerably cheaper to participate in; the rule is that all firearms must
have been designed in 1899 or before. This sport is not for every type of
shooter, although the popularity has been increasing steadily, along with the
more modern competition shoots.
Cowboy action shooting got its start in the 1980s and has branched off over
the years to more specific markets, like SASS (Single Action Shooting Society)
and a handful of others. Some of these organizations strongly encourage the
participants to wear costumes of the era, although this is not generally
enforced by most groups. However, most shooters enjoy acting in the era of the
event.
During my experience with the cowboy action shooter, I found a great deal of
new shooters and organizers alike using the Heritage firearms, with fanatic
devotion to this almost unheard of company. A great deal of shooters choose
Heritage firearms due to the extra safety, as well as the four click cocking,
which gives the shooters the ability to feel and hear when their revolver is
ready for shooting.
Unlike many other shooting sports this is one that the whole family can
participate in, which allows everyone to step out of character for the event and
enjoy nostalgic reenactment. So anybody looking for a new hobby, or to just test
their skills with their Heritage revolver, I would encourage them to check out
any of the cowboy action shoots. Unlike many other shooting sports, there is
more of an “amongst friends” atmosphere, instead of people spending thousands of
dollars to get the edge on their competition. If you own a Heritage Rough Rider,
you might want to look for a local cowboy shooting event, or just enjoy it at
the range; either way, you won’t be disappointed with any of the Heritage
firearms.
I would strongly recommend any of the Heritage handguns for anybody
interested in a great gift for a nostalgic collector, or even for a new shooter.
Heritage Arms offers a one-year warranty on all of their products and has a
whole herd of replacement parts with added safety features that just weren’t
made available until recently. In my eyes, this makes Heritage a great
investment, and are sure to last the test of time with their fans and
enthusiast.
