This is the first Glock I have ever owned and I have to admit it is an excellent firearm. It beats all the other 9mm handguns I have shot ]in my opinion[. It is dead on out of the box and well built. I was a little iffy at first buying a polymer firearm but after a few shots that was no longer an issue. The gun is made for a medium sized hand and has moderate recoil. The overall weight is well distributed and it has the right amount of heft. Field stripping is a no brainer. Also, the safe action system gives great peace of mind and is one less lever that needs to be switched. Just aim and pull the trigger. I would highly recommend this firearm to beginners and experts. As a bonus there are many aftermarket parts that will allow you to customize the gun. ]Note: This review is for the Third Generation Glock 19[.

This pistol has to be close to the most perfect one can buy. The weight of the pistol has been reduced only in non pressured areas by the use of high quality plastics ]Austrians call them polymers[ that provide fit and finish beyond other manufacturers metal components. The 15 round magazine is itself a study in high quality plastic manufacturing combined with high strength metals where important. The Glock 19 9mm compact version feels as good as the full size Glock 17. I would recommend the Glock 19 over the Glock 17 for anyone whose hands are of normal size. I think recoil is virtually the same as other 9mm''s using the same ammo and the handle/barrel angle helps restoring the gun to firing position quickly after a round is fired. My wife has no problem using the Glock 19 except the main recoil spring is a bit hard for her hands to pull back into initial firing position. It can also be difficult for me if my hands a sweaty. I believe there are still 31 or 33 round magazines available for the Glock 19. While this may seem to be overkill, it saves a lot of range time eliminating the number of magazine loads necessary. I have two of these oversized magazines and they have never jammed. However, my Glock 19 has jammed twice due to my carelessness when first using the gun. This is obvious to me now, but it is essential that there is no obstruction to the slide when firing a shot. The two times my gun jammed also did some bloody damage to my left thumb that was in the way while firing a round. You would think that if one did this once it would be enough to make sure it did not happen again. I was dumb enough to have to experience a bloody thumb and jam twice within a short period of time before I learned my lesson and modified my grip to avoid this from happening again. I guess I have learned my lesson because I have fired over 600 rounds on the gun without further incident or jam. The gun came properly zeroed when I bought it. I added a Glock combination tactical light and laser a few weeks after I bought the pistol. I did this principally for my wife and I to worry less about accurately aiming through the sites when knowing that the bullet will go where the red dot is takes less time and is independent of the position of your gun ]providing you have a good grip[. The tactical light will easily blind an offender in lower light circumstances such that it is not a concern that the light will identify exactly where your gun is. The light is also very powerful in illuminating dark areas. However, I would think that if you have made visual contact with the light, it should only be used for a short period after that because of the ability of your target''s eyes to adjust to the bright light. Obviously, the length of this period is dependent upon the initial lighting conditions prevalent at the start of your search. I was concerned at first in having a pistol that had no external safety switch. I now think the Glock system of safeties is superior and almost teaches you gun safety by making sure you do not have your finger on the trigger unless you are ready to fire. An additional safety can lead to confusion or forgetfulness about the fire ready status of the pistol. However, it is critical that you completely review the firing status of the pistol before allowing anyone else to handle it. I cannot overemphasize this point. If I were to lose my Glock 19 I would want to replace it with another. It is a great pistol and I would see no need to try something else so long as the 19 is available.

just bought my Glock 19 9mm compact pistol lately. fired about 200 rounds.had two jams, but in general it''s an awsome gun. i love it. the sight is good. had my wife fired it. and she loves it too. good grip and sights. 15 rounds mags. wish i could get a longer magazines for my toy..
